How much does a portrait cost?

I welcome all enquiries about portrait commissions and I am usually able to arrive at a figure that is within your budget.

However, as a guide:

Drawings start at £650
Oil paintings begin at £1,600

I ask for one-third of the agreed fee at the start of the commission and another third when the portrait is begun. I then ask for the remainder to be paid when the sitter is happy with the completed portrait.

Although framing is not included in the fee, I am very happy to advise and can also arrange for this to be done. The style of frame is very personal as it has to sit well with other paintings and furnishings in the room. I usually find that the client and I have a discussion about the frame at an early point in the commission and a final decision on framing is usually made by the time the portrait is completed.
